Welcome to the official web page of the Canadian Wado Ryu Karate Federation.

The C.W.K.F. is recognized by the International Federation of Wado Ryu Karate-Do organization (Wado-Ryu Renmei of Japan) under Grand Master Hironori Ohtsuka III and are former members of the Wado Ryu Karate-Do Academy when it was led by Masafumi Shiomitsu 9th Hanshi. We are also members of the Wado Karate-Do Coalition (W.K.C.).

The C.W.K.F. was established in 1970. The headquarters was originally in British Columbia. Over the years clubs/dojos were established in Ontario, Saskatchewan, and Quebec. In the 1980’s on the retirement of the original chief instructor, James Hamilton Sensei, the headquarters was established in Ontario under the current chief instructor Alex Waith Sensei 7th Dan Wado Ryu karate.

Wado Ryu Karate is one of the four major styles of Japanese Karate. The style or system is also known as Wado Ryu Jiu Jiutsu Kenpo, as the techniques are integrated with Yoshin Ryu Jujutsu and Karate-Do to form a complete and comprehensive martial art.

Wado means the way of peace and harmony. We strive to attain this while providing a high standard of martial arts training, self defense capabilities, fitness, and competition results.

During the COVID pandemic the C.W.K.F. maintained a high level of regular practice virtually by Zoom, in parks, and has recently returned  to indoors training. Due to the commitment of members to continue training during the pandemic, we continued a regular grading program.
